Statement of Child safe environment

At Kids Own Early Childhood Learning Centre, we are committed to the safety,
wellbeing, and inclusion of all children. We take a zero-tolerance approach to child abuse
and uphold our responsibility to protect children from harm in line with the Victorian Child
Safe Standards and the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations.

We recognise that every child has the right to be safe, respected, and heard. We place the
cultural safety of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, the safety of children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and the safety and inclusion of children with additional needs at the centre of our practices.

Our Commitment

To create and maintain a child safe environment, we will:

  • Embed the 11 Victorian Child Safe Standards into our everyday practice.
  • Actively uphold the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations, ensuring our policies, procedures, and culture are consistent with the national model.
  • Promote child empowerment and participation, supporting children to express their views, raise concerns, and be part of decisions that affect them.
  • Maintain a Child Safe Code of Conduct that applies to all staff, educators, volunteers, students, and visitors. Provide ongoing training and support so our team understands their obligations to protect children.
  • Use robust recruitment, screening, and supervision practices to ensure child safety is prioritised at all times.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to any concerns, disclosures, or allegations of child abuse or harm.
  • Engage families and communities in open communication to build a strong, safe, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Commit to continuous improvement, regularly reviewing and updating our child safe policies and practices to remain current with legislation, research, and community expectations.

By aligning with both the Victorian Child Safe Standards and the National Principles, we ensure that Kids Own Early Childhood Learning Centre is a place where every child can learn, grow, and thrive in safety and confidence
